Sociedade Santos Mártires is a non-profit civil association that specializes in addressing the needs of the population in Jardim Ângela and surrounding areas. In the 1980s, there were inadequate public policies for the community. Our mission is to “Be a beacon of hope in the Jardim Ângela region through actions that value the lives of children, youth, and adults, encouraging them to engage in citizenship.”

Over the years, through organized efforts in open spaces within the district, Santos Mártires Society has expanded its services to the population. We advocate for and provide a wide range of services, focusing on ensuring the rights of children and adolescents and promoting human development. Our specific programs cover all age groups without distinction of race, color, sex, religion, or political creed.

Today, it serves the community of Jardim Angela and neighboring neighborhoods through 19 projects and services, providing approximately 4,500 direct and 16,000 indirect interventions per month in partnership with the municipality and various collaborators.

Among the various services offered by the organization is the SAICA (Institutional Shelter Service for Children and Adolescents) Casa Girassol, which is a high-complexity social protection service, as provided for in the Unified System of Social Assistance – SUAS. Its purpose is to provide shelter for children and adolescents aged 0 to 17 years and 11 months, whose caregivers are temporarily unable to fulfill their caregiving and protective roles, respecting the legal principles of brevity and exceptionality.

It operates as a transitional residence until the return to the biological/extended family or placement with a substitute family is made possible (a procedure carried out through the Child and Youth Court). The service operates 24 hours a day. Within SAICA Casa Girassol, children and adolescents play, have fun, eat, and develop, with the service being responsible for addressing their comprehensive needs, providing support in health, education, and recreation.
