AMEO – Bone Marrow Association of the State of São Paulo is a Civil Society Organization of Public Interest (OSCIP) founded in 2002. Its mission is to work towards making the Bone Marrow Transplant Program in Brazil accessible and achieving the best possible results.
AMOE’s initial activity was to contribute to the formation of the National Register of Volunteer Bone Marrow Donors (REDOME), which is now the 3rd largest registry in the world with 5 million donors. AMEO was a pioneer in this field, and the quality and results of its work have been recognized and awarded.
Projects
Since 2010, AMEO has maintained a Support House project that serves young, adult, and elderly patients of both sexes. Primarily funded through donations, the Support House offers 10 lodging spaces, with 5 for patients and 5 for accompanying individuals. The house provides social assistance through which patients are guided to assert their rights and are supported by professionals in the field.
AMEO also works on projects related to education, training, and knowledge dissemination. The “Educate to Donate” project offers a program for schools with the aim of instilling the concept of blood donation as an act of citizenship. Through theatrical strategies and research, AMEO’s team discusses the need to obtain committed blood donors and the systematic lack of donors in our Blood Centers.
The Capacitar para Curar (Train to Heal) project involved the preparation of educational materials (print and multimedia) for the training and development of professionals working in Support Houses for the care of patients before, during, and after Bone Marrow Transplants. In 2020, AMEO partnered with the company Astellas Farma Brasil for a new printing and distribution of the manuals.
AMEO provides free lectures on Bone Marrow Donation and Transplantation. Their speakers visit companies, partners, schools, and churches to disseminate information and raise awareness in society about the importance of bone marrow donation.
