The União da Juta Association is a non-profit organization located in the Sapopemba region, East Zone of São Paulo. The organization was established in 1992 with the mission of constructing 160 housing units in Fazenda da Juta, under a mutual aid and self-management system in partnership with the Housing and Urban Development Company.
Upon the completion of the construction, there were residences, but there was a lack of daycare centers, schools, health clinics, security, and public facilities to ensure a minimum quality of life. Faced with these needs, the Association redefined its mission to: promote the development of autonomy, the exercise of citizenship, and a better quality of life for children, adolescents, youth, adults, the elderly, and their families, regardless of social class, nationality, gender, race, color, or religious belief. This is achieved through educational, social assistance, cultural, and vocational training programs.
During the collaborative construction of housing, single mothers faced the challenge of not having a place to leave their children, leading to the need for a daycare. After negotiations with the Department of Family and Social Welfare, an agreement was signed in September 1995, initiating comprehensive care for 60 children aged 1 to 5. In 1996, the daycare became associated with the Municipal Department of Education and currently provides full-time care for 130 children aged 1 to 4.
In 2000, the Organization established an agreement with the Solidarity Community to begin providing courses for young people aged 15 to 18 in Baking and Pastry. The project continued through an agreement with the Department of Social Assistance, now known as CEDESP. CEDESP provides services to 120 adolescents and adults aged 15 to almost 60.
In addition to CEDESP, the institution partnered with the Coca-Cola Institute in the Coletivo Coca-Cola project, which trains young people for their first jobs. Every two months, 120 young individuals receive preparatory courses. In 2001, a new service in partnership with the Municipal Department of Social Assistance and Development was initiated, currently serving 450 children and adolescents aged 6 to 14 in three centers.
